Operation Blue Jay
From the Archives: made by the U.S. government and kept in the National Archives. IFN shows it for its history; it isn’t an independent production.
In 1951, in great secrecy, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers set out to build a huge air base at Thule, Greenland, in the frozen Arctic, with only a short summer to do it. Released once the project was declassified, this episode of the Army’s television series The Big Picture shows how they did it, filmed by Signal Corps cameramen.
